Scranton Lamp RSide | THE SCRANTON LAMP - Hard to find tin face lamp, single spout, marked THE SCRANTON LAMP inside oval on shoulder, 1 9/16 in. base dia, 2 9/16 in. high to lid, ex-Al Grazevich collection with mark O41 on bottom [The Scranton Lamp is another of the fairly early wick lamps manufactured in the Scranton, PA area. With an unusual marking on the lamp shoulder, it is thought the lamp was manufactured by F. W. Watson & Son in Scranton in 1879 or 1880. Watson & Son was listed as a tinware manufacturer with a business on Lackawanna St. in the 1879 and 1880 Scranton business directories. This lamp is unusual in that the F. W. Watson & Son Makers Scranton PA. stamping on the font is missing. Other examples I’ve seen include that marking. Whether this was an oversight in the manufacturing or the lamp was actually made by another company is unknown.] | Original Image |
